How to score 70/70 in C.B.S.E. Physics examinations.

Updated: Jul 9, 2020

While learning C.B.S.E. Physics in Grade 11 and later in Grade 12, the students may feel some difficulty in the beginning. This difficulty can be overcome by following some of the tips given below. Following these tips will for sure ease your preparation. If the basic concepts in Physics is clear and the Physics equations are memorised well in advance, getting high score in the exams is not a big deal.

Thorough reading of the text book:

Critical reading of the N.C.E.R.T. text book is mandatory to succeed in C.B.S.E. Physics Board exam. This helps the students to answer the 5 fill in the blank questions and very short answer (V.S.A.) questions. The marking scheme prepared by the board is purely based on N.C.E.R.T. reader and Board examiners have to follow the marking scheme strictly while correcting the Board exam papers.

Make a revision note:

While reading the text, write the laws, principles, important formulae of fundamental concepts with derivations in your notebook. These self-made notes help you to learn even while travelling or revising or even a few minutes before the start of the exam.

Prepare chapter-wise formula:

Prepare chapter-wise formula and give yourself regular practice of the numerical based on the same. You cannot score well in a physics exam if you avoid the numerical part. If you are scared of the numerical portion, then set aside some time to master them. However, if you are still unsure about the numerical part, then ensure that your knowledge of the theory portion is rock-solid.

Understand the logic behind derivations:

Understand how each step leads to the other steps in derivations. The more you read, the better your will be your understanding. Practice the derivations by writing three or four times so that you can be really quick in the examination.

Practicing graphs:

Relation between the physical quantities need to be known to analyse the graph and the graph related question.

Area under velocity time graph gives displacement.

Slope of velocity time graph gives acceleration.

Slope of KE of photon - frequency of incident radiation graph gives Planck's constant.

Remember the quantities on which a physical quantity does not depend.

Capacitance is independent of charge and potential difference.

Self-inductance of a coil is independent of magnetic flux and current.

Go through the blue print: Read carefully through the blue print of the Board exam. This helps you to get a complete information of the weightage of marks given to each chapter. Certain topics like Kinematics, Properties of bulk matter, Oscillations and waves (Grade XI), Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Electromagnetic Waves and Optics (Grade XII) are very important and should not be left out any any cost.

Preparing for the exams:

Perfection is the culmination of practice. Ensure that you solve the sample question papers of at least the last 10 years. Solving sample question papers helps you to understand the pattern of how questions are set and enables you to be better prepared to write your paper (even though the pattern has changed, 1,2,3 and 5 markers are same).

Daily revision is important, else you are likely to forget either some parts of what you already learned or in the worst scenario the entire chapter.

Time management:

It is important to be aware of the clock ticking while writing your C.B.S.E. Class 12 Physics board examination. In order to ensure that you do not run out of time on the exam day, time yourself when you are solving sample question papers. If you do this regularly, you will realize that your speed will automatically increase. Solve at least 5 question papers in three hours of time. It will condition your body and mind for the actual examination and you will learn to manage time.

Writing the exams:

Utilize the 15 minutes reading time fruitfully. For questions with diagrams, students should draw diagrams given in N.C.E.R.T. text book and label them properly with pencil. For reasoning - based questions focus on having all the definitions, derivations and their inferences on finger tips. While answering the reasoning- based questions, use appropriate formula to support your answer. In 1 mark very short answer questions, give the reason also along with the answer as such questions carry half a mark each for the answer and reason.

In long answer questions, students should abstain from writing in paragraph form. Answers should always be written in point wise manner using bullets or arrows. Also, students should underline / highlight the important terms used, thereby facilitating the examiner to evaluate in a better manner and fairly. It is advantageous to supplement your answers with pictorial or graphical illustrations wherever it is possible. This creates a better impression on the examiner.

If you rewrite certain questions, then make sure that you strike out the first answer after completing the second attempt. If that isn't done, C.B.S.E. rules ask examiners to accept the first attempt and ignore the second attempt.

Don't leave any question unanswered. Attempt every question and write what you think as the right answer.

So, keep your fingers crossed and keep on practicing! If your preparation is up to the mark, these tips ensure you to get a 100% score in your C.B.S.E. Physics paper !!!
